We know many people have questions about our services, so here’s some information you may find useful.

Myth “I work, so I’m not eligible to use the foodbank”

Truth “We are here for anyone struggling to afford food, whether they are working or not”

 

Myth “I used the foodbank last month, so now I can’t use you again”

Truth “You can use the foodbank more than once. We help anyone in genuine need – you just need another referral”

 

Myth “I’m worried no one will understand”

Truth “All of our volunteers are trained and offer a non judgmental listening ear and a safe space for you to talk”

 

Myth “I am struggling with lots of things and you won’t have time”

Truth “We have a team of trained support workers who can work with you or help you get specialist support”

 

Myth “My children get free school meals so I can’t use the foodbank”

Truth “Your children’s school can refer you regardless of whether you get free school meals or not”

 

Question “I don’t know how to access the Foodbank, do I just turn up?”

Answer “You need a referral to visit us. This is easy, contact your Citizens Advice, your local council, housing association, your children’s school or health professional”

 

Question “What if I have a food allergy or don’t eat certain items?”

Answer “Make sure you tell us when we speak to you to discuss what you need”

 

Question “I have Covid, what do I do?”

Answer “Contact an agency for a referral or the council wellbeing hub, and we will contact you and arrange a covid-safe delivery to your doorstep”

 

Question “Are you still doing deliveries?

Answer “Our centres are now open 4 days a week. We are running a very limited delivery service two afternoons a week for those who are Covid+ or who are physically unable to get to one of our centres”

 

Question “What will I get in my parcel from the Foodbank?

Answer “We will give you 3 days’ worth of food, toiletries and sundries. We can also give you dog/cat food for your pets if we have any donations available”

 

Question “Where do I go to get my food parcel?

Answer “Your referring agency will tell you, but you can go to any of our centres. Tuesdays at Merland Rise Church 10-12pm, Wednesdays at Ruxley Church 1-3pm, Fridays at Epsom Methodist Church 115-315pm or Saturdays at North Leatherhead Community Centre 10-1130am”
